Nagel wins award, lands stage role

Congratulations to senior Alan Nagel, who was named a regional NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) winner at Wartburg College Nov. 1.  Senior Lindsay Timmons was a semi-finalist in the competition; congratulations to her as well!

Alan also is to be congratulated for landing the role of Herschel Grynszpan in the musical drama "Sparks Fly Upward," which premieres Saturday, Nov. 8, at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines.  The performance, which will be conducted by Des Moines Symphony Maestro Joseph Giunta, was written by Cathy Lesser Mansfield, a law professor at Drake University and a Holocaust scholar, to educate people about the Holocaust, genocide and tolerance while paying tribute to the victims and heroes of the Holocaust. Tickets are available at the Hoyt Sherman box office or through Ticketmaster.

Swesey has a part in "Buddy"
Congratulations to sophomore Jake Swesey, who has a small part in
"Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story" at the Des Moines Playhouse. The show runs now through October 5. Get tickets by calling 277-6261; prices range from $20 to $35, and student tickets are always $20.
